The Thing About Mother's Day

Happy Mother’s Day to the moms and mother figures out there. But sending lots of extra love to and thinking about those for whom today is difficult.

Mother’s Day can be a very emotionally complicated time, particularly for those mentioned on these posts. I lost my mom at 18 and my birthday falls around this time, so it’s usually a pretty heavy and draining day for me.

I was raised by a single mom, and most of the women in my life growing up were single moms, so mother’s mean the world to me. I wouldn’t be who I am if it weren’t for these women, yet still I tend to want to be alone and not reach out to those I love on this day. It’s no reflection of my love and appreciation for them, it’s just about protecting myself and acknowledging the loss and pain I feel on this day, and frankly every day that I miss my mom.

So to anyone struggling at all today, for whatever the reason and whatever the relationship, do whatever you need to do today. You don’t owe anyone anything. Maybe stay off social media for the day. Just know you’re doing ok and we see you. ❤️❤️
